PRAYER TO ORDER ICONS OVER SCREENS

O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou Who art the manifest Icon Who was incarnate through Thy Holy Mother, the Virgin Theotokos; restore Thy image and likeness in me, for I have tarnished this image by my sins through my senses. I turn to Thy holy icon, Made Without Hands, seeking Thy grace and strength. I realize that I am frequently drawn into the black hole that is the screen; the window into emptiness; the image made by human hands. Teach me to wake up and see that my bondage to this unholy icon pleases the enemy of my salvation, whilst it displeases my loved ones.

May I be like Abgar, who was afflicted with leprosy; who never saw Thee, O Lord, but believed that he could receive healing from Thee from afar. In Thine immeasurable compassion Thou didst call for water and a towel; and wiped Thy holy face with the towel, and left on it Thy miraculous Divine Image as a testament to Thy great miracle-working power. Heal also my sinful soul from the harm this man-made screen causes me; from the boredom and numbness; from separation from Thee; from the false and empty happiness it offers.

I waste countless hours in frivolous distractions and  empty amusements, gazing into a screen, but spend only a few moments in prayer in front of Thy Holy Icon. For it pleases the enemy of my salvation when I waste precious time in distraction, avoiding prayer, and avoiding being present with those who love me. Help me to wake up and see that this man-made image works as a diabolical medium; that this interface through my senses, stealthily markets sin and the harmful passions to me; that this moving unholy icon is a subterfuge for my soul.

O Lord, teach me to have self-control in how I use my senses and how I spend my time, and train me to have detachment from earthly images. Purify my senses and cleanse my heart and mind. O Christ, I hasten to stand before Thy holy image, the window into heaven, Made Without Hands, seeking strength and wisdom from Thee, through the prayers of Thy most pure Mother, and with all the saints. Amen.
