PRAYERS AFTER COMMUNION

Glory to Thee, O God ! (3 times)

I thank Thee, O Lord my God, that Thou hast not rejected me, a sinner, but hast permitted me to become a partaker of Thy Holy Things. I thank Thee that Thou, hast enabled me, unworthy, to receive Thy pure and Heavenly Gifts. Wherefore, O Lord, lover of mankind, Who didst die for us, and didst rise again, and hast bestowed upon us these dread and life-giving Mysteries to the benefit and sanctification of our souls and bodies; grant that they may operate in me to the healing of my soul and body, to the overthrow of every evil thing, to the enlightenment of my heart, to the peace of my spiritual faculties, to invincible faith, to sincere love, to increase of wisdom, to the keeping of Thy commandments, to growth in grace, and to the inheritance of Thy kingdom; that, preserved by them in thy sanctification, I may ever call to mind Thy grace, and live not unto myself but unto Thee, my Master and Benefactor. And thus when this life on earth shall have passed away in the hope of life eternal, may I attain unto everlasting rest where the hymn of those who glorify Thee is unceasing, and the delight of those who behold the ineffable goodness of Thy face is infinite; for Thou art the true desire and inexpressible joy of those who love Thee, O Christ our God, and all creation glorifieth Thee to all eternity. Amen.

PRAYER OF ST. BASIL THE GREAT

O Master, Christ God, King of kings, and Creator of the universe, I thank Thee for all the good things Thou hast bestowed on me, but above all, for participation in Thy pure and life-giving Mysteries. I therefore pray Thee, O Lord, lover of mankind, keep me under Thy shelter and in the shadow of Thy wings, and grant me, in a pure conscience, to my latest breath, worthily to partake of Thy Holy Mysteries, to the remission of sins and to life eternal; for Thou art the Bread of life, the source of sanctification, the Giver of all good; and to Thee we ascribe glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

PRAYER OF ST. SYMEON THE METAPHRAST

O Thou who of Thine own good-will dost give unto me Thy Body as food, Thou who art a Fire consuming the unworthy; consume me not, O my Creator. But rather enter into my limbs, my joints, my inmost veins and heart, and burn the tares of my transgressions. Cleanse Thou my soul, and sanctify my thoughts. Strengthen my limbs, together with my bones. Enlighten my five senses. Establish me wholly in Thy fear. Ever cover me, preserve and protect me from all soul-corrupting words and deeds. Make me chaste, purify and wash me, adorn me, instruct me, and enlighten me. Show me to be a habitation of Thy Spirit only, and in nowise again the dwelling-place of sin; that becoming Thy dwelling-place through communion; every evil and lustful being may flee from me as from fire. I invoke, as supplicants for me, all the saints, the incorporeal powers, Thy Forerunner, Thy wise Apostles, and with them Thy most pure, and most Holy Mother. Receive their prayers graciously, O my Christ, and render me, Thy worshiper, a son of light. For Thou art the Sanctification and Delight of our souls, O God, and to Thee, as is meet, we ascribe glory every day. Amen.

ANOTHER PRAYER

May Thy holy Body, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, be for eternal life unto me, and Thy precious Blood for the remission of sins. And may this Eucharist be to me joy, health, and gladness, and at Thy terrible Second Coming grant that I, a sinner, may stand at the right hand of Thy glory; through the prayers of Thy most pure Mother and of all Thy saints. Amen.
